Above-Ground Swimming Pool Summer Fun

When my husband grew up, he had an above ground pool that they could enjoy.  Since we were friends growing up, I even got to enjoy that pool from time to time.  I also had another family friend that had a pool, and we spent countless hours cooling down and playing in the water during the summer months.  So many great times and memories were made during those warm summers.

My husband, however, just remembered all the work that his parents put in to keeping a larger pool clean.  All the chemicals that needed to be put in to keep it from getting scummy.  The constant cleaning to keep the debris out of the pool.  He saw a lot of work because that is a lot of work.  We also live in a region where we have a shorter amount of time to really enjoy the benefits of a pool.  So, needless to say, we never had a pool at any of our houses when our kids were younger.

Of course, we had many different kiddie pools and slippery slides over the years.  We even had a giant blow-up slide that even adults could go on.  (That was a ton of fun.)  So, when that blew an unrepairable hole after years of use, my kids were still craving something they could go in to cool off. The kiddie pools weren’t cutting it anymore. However, to my kid’s (and mine 😊) good fortune, we ended up with a sizable pool in the backyard without all the headaches of your traditional pools.

Several years ago, during a really warm spell, my kids went out and purchased a pool.  (They now had their license and money and could head to the store without us to tell them no. 😉) My husband was concerned about the upkeep, but it couldn’t have been easier to take care of.  Most of the larger pools for your backyard come with a filter system.  All you need to do is change the filter every couple of weeks to keep the pool clean. This filter system does such a great job at keeping the pool clean.  It even takes out the iron in our water as well. We also have a net to catch anything larger that might float in, but we rarely have to use it.

The only other thing needed to ensure water quality is a chlorine tablet.  We use a floater that keeps the tablet inside, and it dissolves over time to keep that chlorine balance in check.  That’s all we have ever done, and we have had great success and a whole lot of fun in our backyard pool.  Many of these pools are relatively inexpensive and can be used for many years in a row.  I know my kids love it, and so do I.  It is a great way to enjoy a pool without a huge investment, and it’s a great way to cool down on those hot summer days.

Now you have the pool and are looking for something to do in it.  Well, fear not, there are all kinds of fun toys you can have to add to the enjoyment of your pool.

If you just want to float around in the sun, there are plenty of fun floaties that you can find to use in your pool.  There are even some fun games that can be played in the pool.
